La Ciudad de El Progreso
The town is located in the Yoro Department , Honduras . At east of "El Valle de Sula", the Ramon Villeda Morales International Airport and of the San Pedro Sula city. At west of the city you can find the mountain chain of Mico Quemado
For its strategic location, almost every traveler or land tourists need go through El Progreso thats why "La Perla del Ulua" as is known, is considered an extremly important city in Honduras from here travelers make their conections to San Pedro Sula, Tela, La Ceiba, Olanchito, La Lima, Tegucigalpa, and many others.
The city have 547.5 Km of territorial extension and 50.43 Km It is a net urban area and 497.07 Km It is rural area.
The weather is wet. Its temperatur is Min 18 ºC - Max 36 ºC the city is divided in three geographic zones and there are more than 150 neighborhood where live 300,000.
Economy
thanks to its fertile lands bathed by the river Ulúa one of the biggest of Honduras; El Progreso is a city of of great agricultural tradition. In the recent years, several companies of snack foods have been established in the city to satisfy the demand of the travelers, among that they are: Pizza Hut, Burgen King, KFC, Church's Chicken, among others. It have also a modern mall (Mall Megaplaza, one of the most atractive for its architectural design, in this mall is a great variety of shops of clothes, articles for home, beauty, entertainment and more. Besides the agriculture, the inhabitants of The Progress also devote themselves to cattle, to the production and trade of textiles.
One of its principal sources of employment is the industry factory-work. The majority of they located in ZIP El Porvenir
Due to the fact that lately the city of El Progreso has had a great commercial explosion it has been achieved to turn in the third more important city of Honduras, reason for which the government of Honduras is helping to the improvement of the infrastructure of this city though it is not enough yet thing to support this great commercial movement.
The Rio Ulúa is one of the biggest and important of Honduras. This river has its birth in Intibucá department under the name Rio Grande de Otoro. The Ulua does its tour for the departments of Santa Barbara, Politely, Yoro and Atlantida where it is fed by the rivers Higuito, Mejocote, Lindo, Jicatuyo, Humuya or Comayagua and the Sulaco, besides many creeks that they lead it to developing in approximately 400 km from length. For being a mighty river the Rio Ulúa is also one dangerous river.
